Kim’s favourite boxes are boxes that have boxes in them. A few months ago she showed me a picture of something like that. A box with boxes in it.
I hated it. The bamboo, the pin hinges… But recognizing the opportunity I wondered if the design could be salvaged.
No time to waste, Christmas was coming.
And after a bit of struggle with the barrel hinges and a second attempt at the lid, I got the box finished on Christmas eve.
Quartersawn white oak, poplar with black milk paint, brass hinges. The oak for the box is old leftovers from the table in this picture.
